Standing up for what is right is a calling;
defending the voices of the minority
is a meaningful and satisfying cause;
being the one to stand before a seemingly overwhelming force
that almost sounds like and can seem as scary
as a lion when it is roaring;
showing all of yourself to prove that you have nothing to fear
is what you have to do sometimes,
even if you have to do it completely naked
riding through a city on the back of a horse.

Everybody has those dreams of themselves
walking around naked;
everybody wishes that they could run around free
like they used to when they were a kid;
as we get older we become more restricted;
as our opinions, hopes, and dreams, change
we want more and more to be protected.

It’s natural to want to surround yourself;
it’s the way of the world to clothe yourself in the fabric
of the time in which you live;
it’s not wrong to sometimes want to walk around in stealth;
it’s comforting to believe and hold close to your heart
the meaning and the message of a myth;
it’s great to stay and return to what makes you smile;
it’s magical to be looking around you and just see stars;
it’s liberating to be the master of your own style;
it’s carnival-like fun and exciting to want to see
and experience all that exists and is waiting to be seen,
that is as thrilling, fascinating, and inspiring,
as the thought of finding water on Mars.

The freedom to be;
the need to see;
the instinct to share;
the thrill to dare;
the simplicity to be basic;
the ease to be happy with what others take for granted
is more hypnotic and enchanting than a magic trick.

Energy never dies.
Stories are retold, and are never over.
The truth is like gold.
You can be who you want to be,
and strip yourself of what you don’t need,
and you too can be a legend and an inspiration for many,
just like the luminary hero of Coventry
who will forever be known as Lady Godiva.

When we are born there is a bond;
when we first open our eyes to the light
our vision is overwhelmed for a short-time,
because its brilliance is too bright;
when we cry our first tears
we know nothing of confusion, pain, anxiety, and fears;
when we take our first steps and we fall and sometimes trip,
it doesn’t stop us from putting our toe in the water of the unknown
and wonderful, and taking a deep dip.

When we need someone, we always turn first to the person
we can always rely on;
when we need a hand to hold, we always want to touch
the person who would wrap their arms around us
and give us their coat in a heart-beat if we were cold;
when we are given a gift that comes genuinely from someone’s heart,
we know that we will always have a light to shine on us
and guide us in the dark.

When we take something or someone for granted,
life will sometimes give you a hint that you are lucky
to have what and whom you have in your life,
and when you realise, things may seem a little frantic;
when we accept why life is what it is
and that everything happens for a reason,
we know all that we ever need to know,
and as long as we remember that fact, we can understand
why the Earth and the planets revolve around the sun,
and why there must always be a change of season.

When we truly and wholeheartedly embrace
what is of great importance,
the world becomes simple to us,
and the steps that we need to take are as easy to learn as a dance;
when we have faith in our friends and in our family,
we give the greatest gift or present of them all,
and by having that belief in you by someone is phenomenal
and life-changing, beyond measure,
and you are an embodiment of that truth,
and you always will be.

Today for some is just another day-
it is a day, a moment, a place, a venue,
an instrument, a microphone,
to do, to say, to play,
something worth doing and hearing
that everyone is desperate and clamoring to hear,
and it is the religion and the god to whom they pray.
The religion of truth, the god of one,
the reason for the importance of energy and youth,
the enduring message of legacy and constantly evolving ages of wisdom.

In this day and age the best way to share what you have made and created,
and to make yourself heard is to record, film, copy,
and upload to the internet for all the worlds ears to hear,
and for all the worlds eyes to see-
wherever you are in the world you can watch, listen, enjoy,
and be moved by something beautiful
made by someone in their bedroom, or their home studio,
or anywhere where someone has been touched by inspiration,
and moved by the feeling and the energy of the moment,
to set the fire in their heart burning bright and burning free.

For centuries, poets have written, musicians have played,
singers have sung, for their own fulfillment of spirit and life,
but I promise you everyone has always wanted to share
with as many people as possible their poetry, their music,
their voice- so as to commune with another a universal knowledge,
message, and light.
Artists will forever seek any way, avenue,
stage, screen, page, and canvas,
to display their stunning and wonderful masterpiece
of a greater masterpiece of a life, a time,
that is part of the poetry, the music, the voice of all life,
that everyone plays a part in making it what it is-
and it will never end, and that thought is what excites me so much,
and of all the miracles of the universe that is the most epic and sublime.

I watch a street performer play his guitar.
I watch people from every direction, hear, approach,
and repay the talented musician for sharing his gift with everyone.
I watch and I feel the amazing voice and the music of the guitar player
permeate and connect and remind people, even children,
how wonderful music is and what it can do.
I watch and I see why he performs in the first place-
he doesn’t do it for the coins in his guitar case,
he does it because it is what he and everyone loves and enjoys.

Christmas Day is the pinnacle of my year;
Christmas Day is the day when I give gifts of my affection and love
to my family and friends-
something that I try to do every day of the year;
however, Christmas Day is special, Christmas Day is the day
when I get the opportunity to look my family in the eye
and give them all my time, attention,
and see their faces light-up
when they see the thought that I have taken in my preparation-
and the greatest gift that they could give me in return
is the overwhelming feeling of belonging, meaning, and love-
that is what drowns me in the atmosphere of the day,
that is what brings me to tears.

I am fortunate to have, to know,
and to appreciate, what I have in my life.
I have not always fully-understood
why the connections that we make
with a select group of people are so powerful;
but as I get older, and the more that I see of the world,
and the more that I understand our universe’s inner-workings,
the reality of truth that rules everything
cuts through the banality of our false-inventions like a knife.

Family is so much more than blood;
identity is so much more than a name;
our words and our intentions can sometimes be misunderstood,
but if something and someone means something to us
you have to share and express why-
it is not always an instant revelation,
most of the time it builds-up within us
until it is the right time for it to be expressed,
for reasons that we can’t always explain.

There are communities that live in parts of the world
in which their inter-dependency on each-other is their world,
it is all that matters to them:
families who have the respect, the strength,
and a connection to one-another-
and that to them is more than enough;
and I envy them, because every one of them knows the truth,
because, for them, life is about embracing what you have,
embracing every opportunity;
life is about what sustains and remains after we are all gone-
not the throw-away, trivial, material, stuff.

So, at Christmas dinner with my family, on a cold 25th of December,
as I enjoy the food, the company, the gifts that I have been blessed with-
and as I bask in the glow of the day
embodied in the dancing flames of the fire and in its embers-
I will take-in every moment with my eyes, my nose,
my finger-tips, and with my ears;
I will raise-up my glass in cheer
thinking about everyone who means something to me, and why;
and to everyone, everywhere, I will wish a very Merry Christmas,
and an amazing, and a Happy New Year!

If there is one great truth to live by on our planet
it is that you should never take anything for granted,
and that you should take care and nurture
the seeds of life that have been planted-
from new ideas to new sights,
from recurring beauty to new lights that appear at night.

I love life so much, because, at its heart, it is eccentric,
varied, unpredictable, and changeable;
and people, humanity, are one of the greatest examples
of this universal eccentricity-
if any evidence were needed of this fact,
you need only to listen to us all
when we effectively demonstrate our innate gift to squabble and quibble,
sometimes about the most inconsequential of things:
what people choose to do with their time, what people choose to wear-
sometimes it feels like everyone has flashed-back
to the times of arrows and slings.

Another great truth of life
is that you can achieve so much with so little-
you can create the greatest masterpiece
with the right subject at the right time;
you can make the most incredible meal
that anyone has ever tasted in their entire lives
with only a handful of ingredients
in the smallest kitchen in the entire world-
sometimes the simplest of things
are remembered by everyone as the most sublime.

One amazing and inspirational moment can define you forever;
one moment of joy, exhilaration, happiness,
can give you the identity that you have always craved;
one life-changing moment can bring everyone together.

People are more interesting to me
when they prove that they are a fully-fledged individual,
when they choose to not board the ‘trend-train’
and do not do whatever everybody else is doing,
do not say whatever everybody else is saying,
and do not wear whatever everybody else is wearing,
and instead do their own thing, have their own opinion-
even if that does not jive
with what society seems to tell us is “normal”-
we are all interconnected, but we are not a hive.

I love every new day of life,
because it always feels different, more profound, somehow;
every day makes more sense and yet less sense than the day before,
and because of that you don’t know what life has in store;
and although what happens is not always good,
living your life the way you choose to is never a chore.
You have to live your life for yourself, for your family,
for what you love, for what makes you cry;
you have to live your life
as if there are no rules that apply to you,
as if everything that happens is as precious to you
as the moments that you miss in the blink of an eye.

“Speak your mind”,
“Honesty is always the best policy”,
“Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind”
“Confidence is always the cure to jealousy”-
great sentiments, good advice;
but how many people truly believe them,
how many people truly believe what they say?
How many people are honest with themselves, and with others?
How many people truly make the most out of every day?

To be heard, you have to speak out;
to accomplish something, you have to have no doubt;
to be yourself, you need only to act naturally;
to be seen, sometimes you have to become your own gallery.

Everyone has an opinion about every thing,
and most people rebel against any kind of persuasion-
an expert in behaviour would say that people are predictable,
repeating patterns that can be calculated, as if in some kind of an equation;
however, I would argue that when intense emotions are concerned
that can never be the case-
just as in great beauty we can find vulgarity,
and in chaos we can discover immense grace.

Some people internalize their emotions and thoughts-
while others shout them into the air, and paint them on walls.
Some only reveal their true-side
when they are following the exploits of their favourite team,
in their favourite sport-
while others wear their interests on their chests twenty-four hours a day,
with the ferocity of Niagara Falls.
Whether quiet, or outspoken- everybody has a voice;
whether cerebral, or brutish- our defining nature has seasons,
like a planet does; however, our real defining power lies in our gift of choice.

Unlike an animal, Human beings are not driven by instinct alone-
what fulfills us is self-preservation:
keeping alive not just ourselves, but also our peace of mind,
our justifications, and our fixations.
Some people try to hide behind hate to mask their misunderstanding;
some people retreat into cruelty when their frustrations become too demanding.

The best of us speak only when we have something worthwhile to say,
or when our voice is needed most of all;
the greatest of us act for the benefit of everyone-
giving their last breath for another, no matter the cost-
always going beyond the call.

In the long-run, honesty will always ensure loyalty-
at first, if people don’t like or agree with what has been said,
they may not believe you,
but if you hold-true to what you think and say-
they will always trust you.
In the end, when all is said and done,
if you are wrong, and you know that you are wrong,
there is no shame in voicing your disappointment and letting it show-
because it makes it clear to all that what you believed meant something to you-
and there is no harm, after which, in bowing your head low,
in acceptance, and in remembrance of the great philosopher and orator
that was Cicero.

When we first start making friends,
when we first start meeting others of the same heart and mind;
when we first discover that we are not alone-
that is when we first discover that we are not the only one,
that we are of a kind.

We share so much with each other these days,
so much so that I would say that it is impossible to be anti-social-
unless you live on a dessert island,
absolutely cut-off from the rest of the world,
you will always find someone else who is tuned to the same mutual channel.

I am blessed to have met friends through the gift of technology
that I would consider the best that this world has to offer,
I am blessed to have met best friends,
after finding and learning from them instantly, or over time,
that we share a fascination with all things that reoccur.

I can name friends that I know, but whom I have never met,
and speak their names along with literary giants, inspired musicians,
and great philosophers, and honestly say that, to me,
they are the most inspirational people on the planet-
because they are who they are:
they love, they feel, they get frustrated, they laugh, they cry-
everything about them is real-
they are whom I look to for the truth, for honesty,
for support built of something that is stronger than steel.

My friends are all amazing,
my friends gift me everyday the honour to be able to link my life,
likes, and loves, with theirs-
in every word that we share I read poetry in every reply,
the significance of which you can’t compare.

There is nothing harder to put into words than feelings-
words can sometimes seem distant, hollow, or dream-like,
you cannot truly capture an emotion and convey it in every detail;
but the words of a friend that you trust, who you know,
who you can imagine what they are thinking when they are saying something,
on the road to serenity, never fail.

My friends are mothers, and fathers, sons, and daughters;
hard-working, talented, dreamers, creators, believers,
and no so accidental philosophers.
All of my friends are the reason that I smile when I am alone, or in a crowd-
all of the friendships that I have made
is what makes me feel the most proud.

In 50 years from now,
you wont remember me;
but I will always remember you-
I will never be able to forget your dazzling eyes:
the widest, and the most beautiful marvels of existence
that I have ever knew.

In half a century from today,
I will still be telling people
about the second that our eyes first met-
the moment that I became instantly lost in everything about you,
and the part of you that imprinted on me forever-after
that I will never forget.

When I one day reveal the identity
of who it was that I always wanted to be in love with me,
I will say your name, I will describe your face,
and I will try to put into poetry the perfection of your smile-
however, even if I have a picture in-hand,
to describe only a fraction of your face’s divinity
is going to take quite a while.

When I am asked by people who you were, why I love you,
and what makes you eternally special in my eyes,
I will tell them that when I think of you all doubt, and darkness,
is cancelled-out, and all I see is beauty in every form imaginable,
and a presence more overwhelming than a pacific sunrise.

I will tell people a tale of a man looking for a truth, an answer,
a revelation that told him who he was,
and then I will them that that man, Me,
when he saw You felt electrified with love and inspiration
at the sight of you, and that that will go on forever without pause.

Every night I will retire to my bed,
still unable to sleep without dreaming about what we said to one-another,
nor without reliving what you will forever mean to me.
I will look back on myself now, and on my memories of you;
I will pick up a pen and a piece of paper,
and I will continue to write more and more poetry.

A poet within a sphere,
a sphere within a wheel-
not stopping for anything,
with no breaks to their rotation,
and no limit to their zeal.

The world is the clock that never stops,
and Earth is the pendulum that never rests;
people are the hands that connect the dots,
and Life is the face that is always refreshed.

All that live are so small,
and yet they are so big;
all that feel are apples of truth
of the great poet tree,
and in time fall to ground
as if they were a twig.

The reason for everything is there to be seen-
always, everyday, all-around, every second;
its simple, and yet amazing;
it sometimes becomes clearer to see when we are threatened,
and it is more inspiring and forthright than anyone ever reckoned.

We can sometimes feel cold, and alone,
when we are on our own-
and no matter how enlightened we are to the facets of life,
we can sometimes forget
that the wheel of life is run by a river,
and sometimes we all go under, and we all get a little wet.

The great thing about life
is that it is connected at both ends-
once forged, birth and death are the same thing-
everything depends on how you see it,
and what you comprehend.

Everything is imaginary, everything is allegory;
everything is true, everything is real;
everything rides on the rim,
connected by the spokes of the Big Wheel.

There are moments in our lives that feel like our entire life
has been waiting for them to come to pass,
moments that defy description, explanation, contemplation, and time,
that mean so much to us there message is as clear as glass.

Moments that visit us to deliver a direction, a feeling,
an insight of light to guide our way to our hour of attainment and growth,
that strike at the bell that first tolled at our birth,
that will ring again for the last time at our final moment,
that connects and bounds both.

There are times in our lives
when we feel like all the answers to every question we have ever posed
are right in front of us and ready for our time and understanding;
times that take us to the limit of our experience and knowledge,
which then ask of us to feel and imagine
the entire universe in a single moment,
and then watch it expanding.
Times that fill our minds with visions of truth,
voices from our lives, feelings of happiness, pangs of pain,
that call upon you to accept the choices of others that have impacted on you,
and to stand-tall against the downpour of destiny’s rain.

There are times in our lives when we are looking at ourselves in a mirror
and the only reflection we see is the one we wish we had seen
when we were a child-
a portal to the future that shows us at a moment of openness, clarity;
happy, content, beguiled.

There are moments in our lives that change everything about us,
that rocket us into orbit around our world
and show it to us at it’s most sublime.
I live for those moments that show me what awaits me;
and right this instant, I think that it’s time.
