When you are in your own world
and you need a little ‘pick me up’
there is no more powerful motivator
and instigator and reason to nod your head,
to tap your foot, and move your body to the beat,
to the music, and to the words of a great song,
your favourite song, your happy song,
and you can always tell when someone has found that song
and is listening to it and is being controlled by it
every time with the sight of a smile
and the feeling that you get from a look.

Whether in a club, or in a pub,
in a cafe, or while taking part in a game that you play-
that one song can be like nothing else on Earth,
and can truly sing and speak to your heart;
that one song can get you through a bad time in your life,
and can touch you deeply,
because its meaning and importance is so sharp.

That one song can make you smile;
that one song can make you cry;
that one song can make you keep pressing redial;
that one song can take you higher than high.
That one song can take your breath away;
that one song can make you shout;
that one song you can be singing to yourself all day;
that one song can make you melt.

There are songs that are special and unique for a reason;
there are songs that are constantly played and replayed
until they literally become a part of the public consciousness;
there are songs that are for a life-time and not just for a season;
there are songs that are better than all the rest.
There are songs that get you through a grueling work day;
there are songs that help you to drift off to sleep;
there are songs that carry you all the way;
there are songs that you will always love,
and the lyrics of which you will always keep.

Music is a phenomenal gift that should never be taken for granted;
music can be your passion, your love, your salvation,
your place to go to when something is wrong.
That one song, that one piece of music can be poetry to the ears,
to the mind, and to all of your senses,
and its place in your life can grow like a tree
that begins its life the very second
that it is touched by that first drop of water
at almost the instant after it is planted-
and that is why every song, especially our favourite songs,
should be cherished and remembered,
and that way they will forever be our song.

Act in a flash,
do something unexpected,
live in the moment,
don’t even think about it too much
and wonder how you or anyone else will react,
embrace the chaos and the beauty of the imperfect.
Feel like you are rich, even if you haven’t got a cent.

Instincts are super-power;
feelings are a fantastic road to happiness;
thoughts are a rainforest that are the home and habitat
of many wonderful discoveries,
and the place to find new life-
like an unseen, beautiful, new flower.
Touch is always the best accent;
dreams and ideas are the potential of the future
we can all aspire to see manifest before our eyes-
like the always inspiring beauty of your muse’s face.

Life could not be what it is without the balance
that is constantly struck by the recurrent, the unpredictable,
the every-day, and the rare;
everything and everyone would not be as special as they are
if we did not look around us and know how lucky we are
to be living and breathing on this beautiful sphere;
we would never learn if we didn’t sometimes make mistakes,
and run too fast, and occasionally take a trip;
we would never find, or feel, the happiness that is out there
waiting for us if we did not follow our heart, and live, live, live.

The greatest adventures,
the deepest insights,
the best and the most heavenly of mirrors,
the highest heights,
all originated from a seed that fell from a tree,
that grew from a seed, and is a part of a continuous cycle
that began with the first see that came from the great ocean of life,
and which was sparked into growth
by the first raindrop to fall from the sky;
the richest vein of gold can be found within everyone on Earth,
and it’s source is the infinite human heart;
the test of the always present gift of choice is free to all,
and doesn’t need to be bought.

Spontaneity is natural.
Heart’s beat a different speed
depending on how much blood they are pumping.
Jumping out of an airplane without a parachute
can only end one way, and you can only go in one direction,
and even though doing such a thing
would be the most frightening thing you have ever done,
and the last thing you will most likely ever do,
it will also be the most fun.
Being free of gravity in any way,
even if the only thing that can be free to go anywhere
might only be your imagination,
is always thrilling, and is always the first day of a new beginning.

Your own mind, and your own face, is the one you can always trust.
Your life will always be amazing, epic, inspiring, enlightening,
and terrific, if you jump when you feel like jumping,
and you be totally and unapologetically spontaneous.

At the bottom of my garden,
there grows a grand, towering, amazing, apple tree-
I still remember planting its seed in the ground when I was a child,
watering it for the first time with its first vital drops of water,
watching it grow year after year until its top branch grew so high
it looked like it could almost touch the sky
and too high for me to see.
I have had this fantasy for years
of climbing to the top branch of the apple tree
and picking the apple that lies the farthest out of reach,
returning it to my kitchen, chopping it up,
and baking it in an apple pie,
but the apple tree is so dense, precious,
and important to me, to our family,
I would hate to see even a single apple come to harm-
I don’t think I could live with myself
if it got sick or died.

As I stood looking up at the beautiful, majestic,
glowing, due-speckled, green, and red, apples,
as golden sunshine streamed through the apple tree’s branches
and cast a shadow on me, the wind blew delicately,
I heard the sound of breaking and then the sound of something
hitting nearly every branch on the way down
and falling from high above to the ground.
As I looked up, I could see the biggest,
and the greenest, apple that I had ever seen in my entire life,
fall like lightning from a thunder cloud.
I had just enough time to be able to catch a glance
at the great apple and reach out with my right hand
to catch it before it fell and touched the soil
covering the apple trees roots-
the apple was heavier than I expected,
and as it lay in the palm of my hand,
and as I considered what had to happen to make it grow so high
and then fall so far,
I had a revelation about life, about myself,
about what lies at the centre of us all-
human beings, birds, the Earth, as star,
as well as what can be found in an embryo,
or in an apple’s core,
and I instantly had this overwhelming urge to bit into the apple
and potentially taste and be reminded what is important in life:
how what grows above ground and below the Earth
is connected to everything that grows
in a thousand acres of rainforest, in every garden-
what flourishes and what can be found on the ocean floor.

I bit into the apple and the sweet taste of it skin
and the juiciness of its pulp overwhelmed all my senses
and took me back in my mind to the day, to the minute,
to the instant that I first put the apple pip into the soil,
all those years ago,
and I felt like I had witnessed, tasted, and had been gifted
something that I had never experienced before,
and it felt wonderful!

When I blinked my eyes, I was now at the foot of the tree again,
looking up, thinking abut the miracle that is growth
and the incredible significance, the insight,
what we can all learn about life
by witnessing the descent of a falling apple.

A dandelion head bobbing in the breeze-
a common sight to those who regularly venture-out into nature,
and the appearance of which, I have to say, always puts me at ease-
is incredibly inspiring to me;
because, even though it is small in stature,
it reminds me of something greater.

Looking at the head of a dandelion, to me,
is like looking at a physical capture of the spark, the seed,
the beginning and the evolution of the universe;
looking at a dandelion, and holding a head in my hands,
evokes a sense of the delicacy of life on Earth, and beyond-
on our planet, in our seas, in the skies of distant planets,
in the constant creation and destruction of distant lands.

When you look at a dandelion,
you would think that you are looking at an explosion
that has been frozen in time-
that is because you are,
and to me that is what is the most sublime.

Dandelions- like galaxies, maybe even universes-
come in many different stages and sizes,
and within their biology dandelions have many beneficial,
necessary, and life-sustaining, surprises.

When you see the seeds of a dandelion dispersing
and being blown into the wind-
the sight and the spectacle is beautiful to see,
but witnessing it happen can also make your heart sink;
however that is the universe in the smallest
and in the most simplest of examples:
think of the universe as a dandelion in a field
and you will understand that what we see,
and what we believe we know about life,
are nothing but insights, spoilers, and samples.

A dandelion, in all its forms, is an amazing sight,
and its seeds are a reminder to me that creation goes on
like the stars of the night sky-
expanding outwards, and never going in reverse-
that is why I believe that if we are looking to call the cosmos a name,
we should seriously consider calling all of creation
“The Dandelion Universe”.
