Never forget today;
never forget tomorrow;
never forget yesterday;
never forget the debt that we owe,
never forget the importance of sorrow.
The world loses someone important,
vibrant, memorable, and amazing,
every minute of every day-
however, we are only lucky enough
to know a fraction of those fascinating people,
but those who we do know are the stars in the sky
of our lives who shine upon us, and who energize us,
and who inspire us to be a certain way,
and without them life would not be so wonderful or beautiful.
Our lost friends are our conscience;
our forgotten memories are still hanging
in the gallery of our minds,
but they are just waiting to be unveiled again;
our connections with everyone are still strong,
and are everlasting,
because that first impression gifted
can only be given once;
our heart, our compassion,
our want to remember and be remembered will never die,
and there are days on which it is important to take a moment
and remember how lucky you are to be here on this planet-
and one of those dates, those days, those moments,
is today, on September the eleventh.
I have been to your beautiful memorial;
I have sent a prayer of peace to you all at the tree of hope;
I have been moved to tears at the memory and thought of you all,
even though we never met;
I have mourned you every day since that terrible day,
as if I were attending your funeral;
I have remembered, and will always remember,
where I was when I saw the world change forever in so many ways,
and I will hang on to that memory for the rest of my life
like a rope;
I have no answer as to why what happened the way it did,
and why those who did what they chose to,
but that is not important-
because what is paramount is that we stop anything
as horrifying from happening again as best that we can,
and always remember and teach peace,
think of the fallen often,
and never forget.
There are times in your life
when you need a push;
there are times in your day
when you need a boost;
there are times in order to get things done
you have to do them in a rush;
there are times when you have to take a breath
and say “what do I have to lose?”.
We all would love a life of no demands;
we all would love to have a life of no worries;
we all would love to explore at our own pace
the wonders of far-away lands;
we all would love to live a simple life sometimes,
perhaps in a log-cabin in the middle of a forest,
with enough of what we need for a year or two,
surrounded by the sounds, the air,
the smells of nature, and to be able to fall asleep
every night listening to the music of the wind
blowing and rustling the leaves of the trees.
To retreat is not to surrender;
to find a place to rest and collect yourself
is what you have got to do;
to find peace is to find splendor;
to have the time to breath in deep,
and then dive into something head-first
is the indulgent gift of lucky and fortunate few.
Feeling relief can make you feel lighter;
spending time with your favourite person
in the whole world can renew your spirit;
allowing yourself to be dazzled can help you climb higher;
thinking about the possibilities that you know
are within the reach of your grasp,
because of what you have done to get where you are,
can and will give you all that you need
to stop obsessing the what if’s and just do it.
Time is sometimes of the essence;
obligations and commitments are a way of life for everybody;
there is a genuine lesson to be learnt
from the virtue of patience;
you life can feel so much more rewarding when you have a shared hobby.
You have got to make time for work;
you have got to make time for leisure and pleasure;
you have got to make time for perfecting
the unique joys of your own characteristic quirks;
you have to make time to say ‘whatever’,
and know no pressure.
Today, tomorrow, every day,
when the sun is in full-glow,
when it is two feet deep of snow,
I look to you and I always know
that you are there for me,
and when I do leave your sight
I know that you still look in my direction,
and you think about me whatever I am doing,
and wherever I go.
I have vivid memories of you, of us,
when I was a child I remember you pulling me on sled,
I remember you trying to catch me as I ran wild,
I remember you carrying me in your arms
and putting me to bed;
I remember us looking at each other on more than one occasion
with the biggest and the widest of smiles,
I remember us looking up at the sky
and watching the airplanes of the nearby airport fly overhead.
When I was a kid I was always asking questions,
and you always had the answer I was looking for;
when I was growing up, and even now,
your words, thoughts, and influence,
send my imagination off on a tangent,
and leave me wanting to know and to hear more.
Your face, your voice, your spirit, your heart,
is like no one else’s and is unmistakably you-
everyone who knows you only knows
and speaks good things about you,
because you always put everyone else before yourself,
and when people look into your eyes
they see an entire ocean that is so full and deep,
and the most beautiful and the bluest of blue.
I am the luckiest man in the world to be your son,
I have always been the luckiest boy on Earth
to look at you and to look up to you-
because, to me, you are more than just my Dad,
and today is not just another day.
I have looked to you all my life,
and you have given me more than anyone has ever had.
I am forever standing in-awe of you
and of your shadow, and I will always love you
and see you as who I want to be when I do truly grow up,
and my one and only hero, today, tomorrow, everyday,
especially today, as I join with sons and daughters
from all around the world to celebrate you
and to give you the gift of my love, my respect, my time,
and me, today on Father’s Day.
Like bubbles in the air carried by the wind;
like a balloon let go to rise above the clouds,
passed an airplanes wing;
like a person’s voice that fills you with energy,
and makes you daydream in ecstatic bliss;
like a static electrical touch,
or a powerful and amazing kiss-
you can leave your body,
you can leave the ground,
you can bask in glory,
you can breath without a sound,
you can sense someone is with you,
you can feel a breeze touch you like a caress,
you can make a fantasy into truth,
you can be free of regret.
The nature of the universe is infinite change,
in infinite ways, in infinite directions, in infinite depths.
Life presents, shows, and gives us wonders;
life takes us, carries us, and talks to us-
like a best friend that is never out of words, or breath.
The nature of meaningful connections that are responsible
for binding the relationships of everything and everyone
together as one is as striking as lightning,
and as loud as thunder.
Like a sailboat on the sea;
like a glider on an air current;
like an invisible force that you do not see;
like an ever-changing store-front-
we are guided and influenced by the feeling of something;
we are tantalised by the out of reach, but achievable;
we are compelled by a song that we want to sing;
we are held and lifted by a crowd of countless people;
we are like a bird, or a bee-
free to fly, free to be.
We all carry each other;
we all carry a gift;
we all carry a burden, or a worry;
we all carry a need, and a dream;
we all carry our heart out in front of us,
like a loving Mother, Father, Sister, or Brother;
we all carry a bridge that can cross and close any rift;
we all carry a hope that good things will happen in a hurry;
we all carry memories of where we have been;
we all carry and take people along a shared journey,
like the driver of a bus.
We all blossom.
We all grow and bear fruit like a tree.
We all carry someone.
We all have people in our lives who carry us,
and I am so lucky to have people in my life
who constantly carry me.
When we are born there is a bond;
when we first open our eyes to the light
our vision is overwhelmed for a short-time,
because its brilliance is too bright;
when we cry our first tears
we know nothing of confusion, pain, anxiety, and fears;
when we take our first steps and we fall and sometimes trip,
it doesn’t stop us from putting our toe in the water of the unknown
and wonderful, and taking a deep dip.
When we need someone, we always turn first to the person
we can always rely on;
when we need a hand to hold, we always want to touch
the person who would wrap their arms around us
and give us their coat in a heart-beat if we were cold;
when we are given a gift that comes genuinely from someone’s heart,
we know that we will always have a light to shine on us
and guide us in the dark.
When we take something or someone for granted,
life will sometimes give you a hint that you are lucky
to have what and whom you have in your life,
and when you realise, things may seem a little frantic;
when we accept why life is what it is
and that everything happens for a reason,
we know all that we ever need to know,
and as long as we remember that fact, we can understand
why the Earth and the planets revolve around the sun,
and why there must always be a change of season.
When we truly and wholeheartedly embrace
what is of great importance,
the world becomes simple to us,
and the steps that we need to take are as easy to learn as a dance;
when we have faith in our friends and in our family,
we give the greatest gift or present of them all,
and by having that belief in you by someone is phenomenal
and life-changing, beyond measure,
and you are an embodiment of that truth,
and you always will be.
There are two people in your life
who will always be a part of you every day,
wherever you go, whatever you do-
one of those people is your father, your Dad,
your hero, your strength, the one who will protect you,
defend you, work hard for you all his life;
and the other is your Mother, your Mum,
the first vision of beauty and perfection you ever saw,
and if you are as lucky as me
the kindest, the most caring, the most wonderful,
and the most amazing woman, and role-model,
you will ever be lucky to meet or ever know.
Our parents are the reason we are even alive
and kicking in the first place,
and if it were not for them we would literally
never have been born;
our parents saw our first moment, our first blink,
our first smile, our first adventure into unexplored territory
when we first set out on our own,
even if at first it was merely an exuberant crawl.
Our Mothers always know us better than we know ourselves;
our Mothers always want the best for us;
our Mothers always have an instinct
about what the next thing is going to be to come out of our mouths;
our Mothers always know all the names of the trees in our forest.
The best Mothers in the world would walk over hot coals for their children;
the best Mothers in the world would, and do, sacrifice anything
and everything else for their treasured offspring;
the best Mothers in the world would lay down their life for their child
in front of an oncoming train;
the best Mothers in the world would consider, and do consider,
the life and the happiness of their family their top-priority,
and they embrace every second of being a Mother,
and they love all the joy that honour, privilege, and gift, brings.
My Mum is smart, beautiful, fantastic, and true of heart;
my Mum is vibrant, special, funny, amazing, and unlike anyone;
my Mum is my soul, my friend, my conscience,
and she will be forever as she has been from the start.
My Mum is the greatest Mother, because she is always caring for others
like she always has her entire life,
and I am so lucky to be her son,
and I am the luckiest man in the world
that my Mother is my Mum.
