When it’s 4 o’clock in the morning,
and everyone around you is still sound asleep;
when you are up and awake and already imagining,
still dreaming, thinking, creating, writing,
and you feel comfortable to open the door
to the place inside you that leads to your soul,
the place where everything you can imagine
is just waiting to be let out and allowed to run and leap;
when an idea comes to you,
when you can already hear the melody and voice
of a beautiful and exciting new piece of music;
when you feel something that seemed so small once
begin and never stop growing inside you,
the feeling, the experience, the time, you,
are heart-racing, away;
the silence, the noise, the close, the far,
feel like they are all inside you, and connected to you,
and I can tell you that when I have those moments
and I am touched by true inspiration, like I am every day,
it is absolutely breath-taking and epic.

There are times in your life
when you can’t say what you want to say,
because words simply fail you;
there are times when I say everything I want to say with one word-
I realized once that the more powerful thought and idea of anything
can be found when you seek out the far-between and the few.

Never give up on love;
never turn your back on something that means everything;
never doubt your heart,
and never even think to stop the flow of what makes you who you are;
never stop looking, never stop talking,
never stop cooking, never stop doing,
never stop believing, never stop watching;
keep being inspired, keep being inspiring,
keep being too awake to be tired, keep calm,
and do what everyone keeps telling me to do…
keep writing.

Out there in the world someone is dreaming;
out there in the world someone is hiding;
out there in the world someone is revealing;
out there in the world someone is reconciling
with the world for the answers they are incapable of finding.

Out there in the world someone is being kind;
out there in the world someone is changing their mind;
out there in the world someone is being bad;
out there in the world someone is crying out to anyone,
because they feel so sad.

Out there in the world someone wants the best;
out there in the world someone is taking a test;
out there in the world someone wants something;
out there in the world someone is captivated
at the same time they themselves are being captivating.

Out there in the world someone is being born;
out there in the world someone is taking their last breath;
out there in the world someone’s heart is being torn;
out there in the world someone is facing death.

Out there in the world someone is having a life-changing idea;
out there in the world someone is making plans;
out there in the world someone is holding back a flood of tears;
out there in the world someone is getting married,
kissing the one they love the most in the world, and holding hands.

Out there in the world someone is thinking about you;
out there in the world someone is sending a gift;
out there in the world someone is making their debut;
out there in the world someone is finding solid ground
after years of being adrift.

Out there in the world someone is at the start;
out there in the world someone is at the end;
out there in the world someone is hearing the first beat of their baby’s heart;
out there in the world someone is making a new and life-long friend.

Out there in the world someone is obsessing;
out there in the world someone is impressing;
out there in the world someone is crying;
out there in the world someone is laughing;
out there in the world someone wants to be seen, someone wants to be heard;
out there in the world something incredible is always happening somewhere
to someone in the world.

Someone once said:
“I don’t care what you do, just be profound.
Wherever you go, whatever you say,
give everyone a reason to listen to what you are saying,
and to write your name on the ground.”

If you are an artist,
then create a work of art to spur others on
to create their own masterpiece;
if you are a musician,
compose opus after opus
so that when people listen to your music in their head
they are always at peace.

Always strive for perfection,
even if you believe you will never achieve it-
one persons morning is another persons night-
everything you make and create will find its intended.

Great profundity happens everyday, and nearly always accidentally;
truth comes from repetition, experience, and wisdom;
inspiration comes from a momentary clear view of the connection of all things-
that changes the way you see and think about things fundamentally.

Like everything, perfection’s definition
is always down to interpretation, and personification-
how everyone feels about something is subjective, selective,
based on sensation;
after experiencing a piece of art,
where one person may take offense,
another may feel enriched and overcome with elation.
Music is the same way:
where some may only hear “noise”,
another may be moved to tears by a songs emotion, energy, and poise.

Perfection, to me, is something or someone
that opens your mind and your heart to new possibilities-
something or someone, which or whom, awakens in you new abilities,
and frees you of any and all of your anxieties.
If that is the case, then I can honestly say
that I see and hear perfection everyday
in my family, in my friends, in the people that I adore,
and in the songs that I listen to- which are always on continuous play.

To make a difference in life,
you don’t need money, you don’t need what everyone else has,
you don’t even need to be famous or renowned-
to make a difference in this life,
you need an idea, you need a fully-formed and imagined picture in your head,
of what you want to do;
then you need to give all that you have got to a perfect moment,
and just be profound.

This morning is the start of a new day,
a new poem, a new sky, a new light-
this morning is blue-sky blessed,
cold, beautiful, and bright.
This morning I turned on my iPod,
selected my favourite song,
and sung along to the lyrics
that are always at the foundation
of a great new day-
every song I listen to,
from the first to the last,
tap into my source spark,
make me feel as light as a feather,
and take me away.
I have a cup of tea,
I get dressed for the day,
and then I take my tea, my music,
and my poetry with me-
I set-out into the new morning,
accompanied by the transcendent voice of Kirsty Hawkshaw
singing ‘A Million Stars’, to the epic beats of BT.
I brave the cold and the ice,
warmed through-and-through by my coat, my scarf,
and by my hope to be inspired by all that I see;
I walk the paths, through the gates, over hills, and through trees;
I stand in the middle of my favourite forest-
alone, and inspired by every second,
as I watch my breath begin to freeze.

Just after noon, I return home-
check my emails, log-on to Facebook,
and tweet my friends, and followers, from my phone;
I sit down, and begin reading another chapter
of the magnificent ‘Warhorse’ by Michael Morpurgo-
I still cannot believe that I had never heard, or read,
this beautiful book until now,
because I love everything about it:
the characters, the emotional resonance, and its amazing flow.
In the afternoon sun,
I stand outside my house,
taking in the world around me,
and sensing the aroma of a fire burning
in the distance on the air-
the smell is so intoxicating to me,
so much so that I imagine that I am standing by a roaring fire,
hypnotized by the heat and the flames,
alone, in the middle of nowhere.

At night,
I gaze at the constellation of Orion from my garden,
whilst listening to the amazing ‘Saltwater’ by Chicane-
and I am moved to tears by the staggering beauty of everything,
as the wonderful gift of life overcomes me
and can no longer be contained within my brain.

Friday, the 13th of January, 2012,
was a day filled with so many more wonderful gifts of life
that I experienced than I could accurately, poetically, delve;
however, it was a day when an idea became a reality
that in my eyes reverberated throughout the entire Milky Way-
and this is that idea,
this is my poem,
this was, and this is,
Today.
