Dancing in the dark around the light,
on a hot Summer night,
creating a beautiful spectacle
as they dart around so fast,
a constellation of lightning bugs fly and glow
and make children and adults feel awestruck and alive
as they watch the magical light show.

I have always been fascinated by miracles of life
that have the gift to be able to generate their own natural light,
I have always thought of myself as a firefly or a lightning bug
attracted by and also unknowingly generating my own trail
for others to follow, like the electric breadcrumbs
of streetlights at midnight.

I often feel like a big kid,
because as I have got older
I have refused to give up on seeing the world
and marveling at the new, the phenomenal,
and the exciting, and I plan to continue
to see the good before I see the bad;
I will never take for granted what I have,
and I will try not to pine
for that which I didn’t need in the first place,
and never want for which I never had.

Even in the darkness,
at all hours of the day,
even at night under a full-moon,
life of every kind is awake
and showing the colours of its plume.
I have always thought that at magic hour of sunset
the world is in the throws of a transition
and change that can be seen as well as a felt-
I believe that certain animals and people
have a sense of this, and an instinct for it,
and that is what makes me think that all the stories
and myths about the supernatural
have more truth to them than we know fully,
and that it is no coincidence that so many stories
and tales take place around twilight.

I have always wanted to see
and I have always wanted to hold
an integral piece of nature’s magical puzzle in my hands,
and on more than one occasion I have held the precious delicacy
of a short-lived but exhilarating teacher of life
who has shown me, and who has tried to teach me,
that every fleeting moment is important-
as is the time you spend talking to and with family and friends.

Anything that you can share,
anything that you feel,
anything that you can hold and embrace tightly
can feel as great and as energizing as the light of the sun,
and as comforting as a hug.
The wonder of all life and infinite possibilities
can be seen and felt if you are lucky enough to see,
and if you are fortunate to be able to chase, catch, and hold,
a emanating and glowing lightning bug.

The Earth cannot stop turning,
the world will never end,
the life-spark of the Sun will never stop burning,
the revolution and the evolution of everything
shows and hides the truth about what makes the universe what it is-
what we have done cannot be put back to how it was,
we can’t forgive all the actions that have been commited,
but we can make amends.

To cure violence we need peace.
To purify our hearts and minds we need love and understanding.
To move forward we need to talk to each-other more,
we need to feel at ease.
To build a greater foundation for the children of tomorrow,
we need to keep improving, we need to share more about ourselves
and what makes us who we are;
we need to make, create, and do things for all, and not just for some;
we need to commit to this contract of living that we have with this world;
we need to teach our children what is right and what is wrong;
we need to continue to find others who want what we want;
we need to champion those who are truly outstanding.

No one is born perfect.
Some people need more help than others.
No one has the right to take a life-
we have to honour every mind, heart, and experience,
and show them respect.
People don’t always get along,
but they can still be your friend, your partner,
your sister, your brother-
everyone is born into darkness,
but as they grow so does their need to want to leave an indelible mark
on the world they find themselves in,
and eventually thrive more so by simply being in the light.

Happiness. Peace of mind. Freedom.
Every species, every individual,
every person who has ever lived in both the light and the shadows
knows what it means to be happy, to be at peace, to be free,
but they are never satisfied with only them
possessing this amazing knowledge-
they feel like they have to tell everyone.

Life should be a party,
the world should be our venue.
All around us, every day, there is joy, inspiration, energy,
colours of every intensity and hue.

We have all been given an amazing gift,
make the most of it every second.
Do what feels right in the moment.
Don’t just simply take what you need.
Give back to the world.

Sitting, looking, taking in the view
of the young and the old, the timeless and the new-
I look up and out to a bustling city
constantly changing and revitalizing itself every minute,
as I sit alone staring at faces, windows, beauty, art, life,
from my spot at Millennium Place,
as sunlight bursts through the clouds and blesses where I am
so that everything is beautifully lit.

The city in which I am sitting was once described as a “ghost town”,
however I think that perception hasn’t been ascribed for a long time-
this city has a history, it is has a story;
this city reminds me of myself, and the people of this city
are like the infinite sides and colours of me;
I think that this city and I are by no means in decline-
I believe that we are in our prime.

Sitting on the circumference of this circular centre of congregation,
with a museum dedicated to the best inventions
of some of mankind’s best mechanical minds behind me,
I think about what the world has gone through, what I have been though,
the things that still stand on land,
and everything that lies, lives, and endures everyday in the sea.
There are creatures who live their entire lives in the dark,
deep, wonderland, water-expanses of the ocean floor-
completely oblivious to sunlight-
who have the ability to actively emit, change, and show their own colours,
whose bodies are as translucent as glass-
they shine in their own way,
some still to be seen by human eyes for the first time,
playing out a mystery unbeknownst to them, blissfully un-harassed.

As I grow older in heart, mind, and body,
I go to places, and I step inside the footprints of other people
who I imagine once followed the path that I am now on,
and my mind no longer feels foggy.
When you are a child you play in the fog-
the fact that you don’t know everything
doesn’t even become a fully-formed thought in your mind;
but you do want to do everything, you want to see everything,
and you have no idea that you should remember for later
the things that you leave behind.

I am enthralled by the future;
I adore every day, for many different reasons,
and as I get older I try to chronicle as best that I can
the days that have gone by-
because I have lost so much, and will continue to lose so much,
and because I have slowly began to give up the obsession of my youth
by stop asking the question: why?

From the rooftops of London,
to the market squares of Belize;
from the skyscrapers of New York City,
to the districts of downtown Los Angeles-
the streets are art of the most exquisite kind,
what wonders there are to be found around every corner-
it would be a crime to be blind.

From the inspired graffiti of Banksy,
to the spectacular neon-light metropolis of Tokyo;
from the beautiful avenues of Paris,
to the Las Vegas strips illuminated hotels and casinos.
The art of our cities and towns is ever-present in its architecture,
you can see a buildings story in the colour of its bricks;
the art that has always been there
and the art that has built-up over time
melds together harmoniously to the artistic eye,
as if it was always meant to have been mixed.

From the multi-coloured facades of Portobello Road in London,
to the wavy pavements of Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro;
from the sizzling streets of Miami beach,
to the ancient suburbs of Cairo-
amazing man-made creations show off, in full-display,
humanities limitless innovation, creativity, and inspiration:
from expressions of remembrance, to the statues of our heroes-
every detail of every landmark is worthy of exploration.

The streets of our cities are like the neurons of a brain,
constantly transmitting information and details about everything
that is connected to its network;
the art of our cities streets is always on the move,
being made and remade, over and over again-
from advertisements, to the colours that people choose to wear for work.
Every street on our planet is electric and interesting
for all sorts of reasons,
and the streets of every city keep the beat of modern society
going like a heart;
all the streets are vibrant and telling,
and like anywhere you look in a gallery,
everywhere you look in any city on Earth
you will see that the streets are art.
