The lonely word.
The lonely heart.
The lonely world.
The lonely art.
The lonely voice.
The lonely face.
The lonely choice.
The lonely race.
You can sometimes think you are walking alone
even when you are in a crowd;
you can sometimes feel you are hearing nothing
even when the world sounds so loud;
you can sometimes see the world distorted;
you can sometimes hear the distant call
of someone who you may not have seen for a long time,
who is nowhere even near you at that exact time-
like the voice of a ghost,
but even though you can’t see that person
you have no doubt as to its origin,
and you will swear on your life
that you heard the person that you heard say what they said
in the way and in the voice that they said it.
The lonely soul just wants a mate.
The lonely journey is always more bareable
when you have got someone to travel it with.
The lonely note just wants to be played
until it becomes a source and a beacon of hope.
The lonely time can be when you are on a break.
The lonely place can be when and where you feel
like you have nowhere to be and nowhere to live.
The lonely mark can be the brightest and the most wonderful
and wise question and answer that can help you to cope.
Sometimes when you feel the most lonely,
you are the most surrounded by friends, energy,
affection, and love;
sometimes when you feel like you need somebody so badly,
you already and always have them with you-
because they are like the stars that are always there
twinkling in the dark heavens above.
Sometimes when you feel like you are being infected by something,
you are actually being cured;
sometimes the most inspiring and breathtaking thing in the world
can make you feel something incredible,
but can also be the loneliest of words.
I put everything into every thing;
I give all my attention to something or someone as much as I can;
I make the most out of every instance,
and I hear and I feel the significance and the difference
in any and every thing;
I believe every word, every song, every action,
every gift, every talent, every touch, every look,
has meaning to it, and that there are life-changing moments of light
and clarity that are a beacon to a new direction you are destined to take,
and not just a flash in the pan.
I am so sentimental.
I never forget a thing.
I love holding on to pieces of the past,
and remembering the actions of people
whose life was torn away from them before their time,
like a constant memorial.
I have a hard time letting go of people who meant something to me
and to this world, who gave so much every day
without a second thought to the recompense their choices would bring,
who would have given all that they could to anyone, to their last.
Everyone is searching for peace.
Everyone wants a little satisfaction once in a while.
Everyone is eager and grateful for some much needed release.
Everyone wants something in their life to make them smile.
That is why people keep so much and never throw anything away,
that is why some people cherish memories, photographs,
messages, and letters, from those who we will never see in the flesh again,
but who still live, and who you can still hear and talk to,
because of the connection that will forever be in what they shared with you-
for some it is what gets them through the hours of every day.
Don’t ever forget a thing.
Don’t ever regret a thing.
Don’t ever forget anyone who touched your heart,
made you smile, made you think, made you dream.
Don’t ever regret any thing that has happened,
because if they never happened you wouldn’t be able to ask
the question of what could have been-
and then not be able to see the amazing journey
that you took to get to where you are from where you started,
and remember all the great things than happened in between.
I never get enough of the intensity and the passion of somebody.
I never get enough of seeing the intensity of someone’s light.
I never get enough of the intensity, the love, that you feel
when you know that the well-being of others is a welcome, full-time, job
for someone, and not just something they can simply pick up
and put down like a hobby.
I never get enough of feeling the intensity of life.
The most natural need of everyone on this planet
is to better themselves;
the most amazing feeling you can have
is that of achieving something;
the most phenomenal day of your life
is when you look around, look forward,
and look back on what you have done,
and you can feel light-headed and heavy-hearted,
and you can genuinely and unashamedly feel so proud of yourself;
when the most life-changing moment of your life-
a moment that feels perfect in every way,
and in every detail and sensation-
comes, and you realize its arrival,
it is like the moment when you know that you have met
the one person you want to be with for the rest of your life,
and share every day of their life with them,
and one day wear their ring.
In life, we never stop learning.
In our mind, we never stop thinking.
With our emotions, we never stop feeling.
With our best intentions, we never stop dreaming, believing-
its all a part of the great gift that is called ‘living’
Everyone is a student of life.
Every baby born right this minute,
every child taking their first step
on their two feet for the first time,
every boy and girl falling in love with each other
and sharing their first kiss;
every man and woman whose love has come together
in the most amazing, incredible, and wonderful way their is,
and they discover they are going to become the parents
of a beautiful child-
everybody, everyday, experiences something that,
if they are very lucky, will inform every hour that follows,
and if they have a dream that they are working towards
and making a reality in every thing that they do,
their lives will be rich like no other,
and every instant will be one that they don’t want to miss.
Today is graduation day for so many people-
even for those who never went to college or university.
Today is graduation day for anyone who reached a goal,
or made something that is uniquely theirs,
that is something you can stare at and remember
how you got to where you are-
like a diploma, or a certificate, or a driving license,
or an application approval letter, or a baby-
something that wouldn’t exist without you
that was worth everything that you had to put into it,
that you marvel at every second, and is so beautiful.
Today is graduation day for everyone who started somewhere
with something, but who wants more,
who is driven in some way to do and to find their way,
and their ultimate reason for living,
on the endless and infinite path of their destiny.
Every day, every one of us can achieve something
that will blaze a trail that will light our future,
and be a beacon for others to follow, and achieve something
epic, amazing, magical, of their own when the time is right
for them to shine and use the gifts that they were born with,
but which just needs to be harnessed, mentored, and molded,
and given every support and encouragement;
because that will be everything that they need to do
all that they need to go above and beyond
their original motivation,
and become and realize that they and anyone can achieve anything.
Everyone, no matter who they are, where they are,
what they are doing, where they have come from,
where they are going, can have their own day of graduation.
From light to flame;
from fire to torch;
from the child that dreams of the future
while staring up at the stars from their porch;
to the born competitor who wakes up every morning,
striving to do better than they did before,
who will be flying their flag on their chest
in the Olympic games, and with the eyes of the world
they will watch as a beacon of hope for all will soar.
The beacon will light the entire Earth when it is ignited,
and, for a short-time, everyone on Earth will,
in our own way, come together in our support for another-
who dreams of nothing greater than to see
the people of the world be united.
Expectations will leap;
heart-rates will jump;
the human machine will be witnessed, admired, and pushed to its peak;
emotions will be up and down like a roller-coaster-
and in triumph we will all feel the awesome ecstasy
that comes with every fist-pump.
We will all celebrate,
and we will all commiserate;
we will all live with heart and mind and belief,
united together like never before in something
that will reverberate, inspire, and inform,
the lives, the people, and the imagination,
and keep alight the fire of hope for everyone forever-
it is what has been carried in the hearts of many
since our ancestors first step,
it is what has driven every athlete, believer,
dreamer of a better world- whomever, whenever, wherever.
We can all do wonderful things;
what we have all achieved up until now is but the start;
how far we look to the horizon
is a measure of what the future will bring-
but what matters the most in life
is not what you get when you reach the finish-line,
it is what you achieve when you choose to take part.
Everyone who has ever lived has been touched and guided
by a million people or more during their lifetime-
anyone who has ever picked up an instrument
and has ever stayed up until after midnight creating their opus,
completely oblivious of the time,
never forgets their first euphonically-inspired rhyme.
Everyone carries a torch throughout their lives
that was ignited at the very moment that they came into being,
everyone is the bearer of a great gift from the day that they are born
that goes beyond teaching, instinct, or feeling-
everyone is empowered with curiosity
the moment that they first open their eyes,
every child is in awe and secretly never forgets
the morning that they saw their first sunrise.
We are the most inspired and the most fearless in our lives
when we are a child-
when you are a kid everything is new, undiscovered, epic;
you can run a marathon everyday, and let your imagination go wild.
Everyone of us is a human-torch,
burning constantly and burning brightly
the invisible flame of a revitalizing blaze-
everyone of us has an imagination like that of an inferno
that can spread beyond our minds
and can manifest in many different and enlightening ways.
How we choose to use our light
and the direction that we decide to take our spark
varies infinitely from child to adult, from daughter to son-
musically, artistically, inspirationally, athletically-
by capturing others in their wake with wonder,
or by scoring a home-run.
Everyone who will ever live will touch and guide
the destinies of millions of people whom they will never meet
eons of years into the future-
every flame that has ever beaconed
will light the way of everything that has yet to occur.
Anyone who has ever written a song,
anyone who has ever imagined a story,
or who has ever looked up at the night-sky
and dreamed of something extraordinary from the comfort of their porch
is the beholder and the wielder on an energy so extraordinary
and so brilliant that they shine more incandescently
and more unbelievably than the stars above,
because they are an everlasting and an ever-burning torch.
-
Through the forest; through the trees;
through an opening, to a cornfield;
there, standing tall in the distance, my talisman is revealed.
The instant I see it I immediately race towards it at full-speed-
ever-present and all-around me there is an energy,
an anticipation, a focus, and a need.
The windmill is all that I see; the windmill is all that I know;
not even the waist-high corn of this field
can keep me from where I want to go.
I am like a man possessed: running, leaping,
forging a path where before there was none-
the closer I get, the faster I run;
the higher it towers, the more hypnotized by it I become.
The Windmill, the tower: a majestic memento of ingenuity,
and symbiosis.
A windmill, an artefact: a constant, akin to that of an oasis.
As I stand at the windmills base
looking up at it’s intricate sails,
the windmill’s wheel begins to spin,
as if it were being turned by the gust of a gale.
The clouds above me clear; the windmill’s sails are now still;
the blue sky above me looks so inviting;
I feel as if I am in the presence of an ethereal will.
I stand transfixed; energized, emotional,
protective of what stands before me;
and after what seems like a lifetime of looking, I finally see…
myself, my younger self,
standing at the base of the windmill looking at me from below-
as if I were now the windmill,
and my younger self had come to say hello.
