If I knew that today was my last day on Earth,
if I could feel and see the last strength
and the last light of me flickering,
if I could feel my spirit getting ready to leave my body
and journey to the stars,
then I would go to the one place in this world I have always wanted to go,
with the one person who I love with the power of a curse,
and we would do something that would be my life’s defining memory,
and it would be so amazing-
not only would I cry from my eyes,
but I would weep from my soul, from my dreams,
from the final breaths being expelled from my lungs,
as all I could hear over everything else
was the beat of my heart.

If this was my last chance to do anything;
if this was my last chance to say anything;
if this was my last moment to think something,
to feel something, to want something, to have something,
I would outstretch my fingers and take hold
of the hand of the one right besides me,
and I would look into their eyes and I would sing.

If my face was being touched by the sun for the last time, I would cry;
if my lips were being kissed by perfection I would smile,
and I would truly be content to close my eyes
and let go of gravity for the first time, for the last time,
and have the means and the gift to fly.

If the time of my life were to be ending;
if the finish-line were to be fast-approaching;
if I knew the one thing that was ultimately
the most important truth worth knowing;
not being able to stay and continue to live
and experience more would hurt more than anything-
because that is the fight that we all one day lose,
because we simply cannot keep fighting.

I really do wish that I could life forever,
but I also wish that everyone else too could go on
and live alongside me and with me for all eternity;
I wish I had a heart and a body
that would never give out-
sometimes I imagine that I am looking back at myself
with eyes that have seen infinity,
and I imagine that I hear myself say,
and especially at the moment that the curtain closes on me
for the final time: enjoy the all of the now.

Sitting on a sandy beach looking out to sea;
sitting at a chess board behind pieces of black and white;
sitting on a deck chair in a beautiful garden
surrounded by birds, trees, flowers, and bees;
sitting, waiting, meeting, thinking, talking,
on a gorgeous morning, on an inspiring afternoon,
under the stars that shine so bright at night.

Talking into the air;
writing what comes to mind;
feeling the sun change the view right in front of you
to reveal something hopeful hidden in the glare;
realizing the importance and the meaning instantly
of a thing that you find;
seeing a photograph and flashing back to the past;
witnessing the building blocks of something
and imagining the finished product in the future;
being the first in line,
when for so long you thought you were the last;
connecting with life like you do with friends on a computer.

Life is sometimes about what you feel,
and about how you make other people feel,
rather than what you know for sure, or what people say;
life is sometimes tough;
life is sometimes good;
life is sometimes rough;
life is sometimes about taking off your shoes
and walking barefoot in the woods;
life is sometimes about making a return to your roots,
especially after travelling far and engaging
in a life-experiencing and world-spanning tour.

When you find ‘the one’ hold on tight to them-
no matter how or why things happen,
make no mistake that there is a greater force
and meaning to everything that is a part of a bigger plan.
When you remember everything that everybody goes through,
you make the most of every miracle that was always meant to be-
even though it may seem to have come out of the blue.

Sometimes you do honestly have to pinch yourself;
sometimes you do need to take a photo
to prove what just happened actually happened;
sometimes more happens to you than you can tell;
sometimes you do just have to go with the flow
and throw out any ideas or expectations
that you may have had planned;
sometimes you do have to ride the train to the end of the track;
sometimes you do have to count your blessings;
sometimes you do have to stop worrying about working out the why,
and doing all the maths;
sometimes you do have to feel and act without thinking,
because you have no idea what can come from a seemingly chance meeting.

You can wake up one morning
and find yourself coming face to face with a prince;
you can look up and see the beautiful face of a princess;
you can go somewhere and see something once
and never again will you have seen the same thing twice, or since;
you can be lucky every day to be best friends
with the one person in the entire world who truly understand you,
and you makes you feel whole when the world can feel like it is in a mess.

When you do something and someone likes it;
when you make an effort and someone notices;
when you find someone and you just click;
when you look around you and it feels like someone has given you
a happy life like no other,
and has made real and enhanced all of your secret hopes,
dreams, and wishes, you know that life does not get any better,
you know that the universe really does have a centre,
you know that you are doing all the right things,
you know that energetic and wild feeling of release-
like a solar-flare on the surface of the sun,
or an eruption of intense heat from a hot spring.

The sights you see,
the music you hear,
the touch you feel, are important,
and those same instantaneous memories will become recollections and echoes,
waves and melodies in your daily life,
and they will influence your choices-
the people that you meet,
the things that you find,
the stories that you learn,
are like pieces of a mosaic,
patches of a quilt,
trees of a rain-forest,
lines of a matrix,
distinctive intonations of a chorus of voices.

When something feels right,
you know that you want to hold on to it forever;
when something feels natural,
you never want it to end or be over;
when something feels like nothing else has ever felt,
or could ever feel;
when something feels like it is just too good for words or description,
then you know that things are not just a dream anymore,
they are for real.

I am like a cool breeze on a hot day;
I am like a flash of lightning
and the sound of thunder in a wild storm;
I am like a light that guides the way;
I am like a little boy running free
through a head-tall field of corn.

I am like a bird flying free,
and singing loud and listening always
for familiar close and distant calls;
I am like a piece of art that is being remade;
I am like the billions of water-drops that make a waterfall;
I am like the light of the stars,
and the hope that you find after searching and reaching
the centre of a maze.

I am like the leaves of a tree;
I am like the clouds of the sky;
I am the one and only me;
I am the one who feels everything
with all my heart, and who is not afraid to cry.

I am either one way, or another;
I do not often walk the line;
I am a believer that every moment
is full of energy and inspiration;
I am a lover who gives all of myself,
all of the time;
I am the space-ship
that travels to many different and distant space-stations;
I am the echo;
I am the footprint;
I am like the perfect white flakes of snow.

I am like the expression of art
that everyone creates when they are a child
in the form of a hand-print in wet paint.
I am the thoughts that fill the silence;
I am the artist that paints the infinite picture;
I am the question mark at the end of a sentence;
I am always living and hoping for what awaits in the future;
I am a man filled with fascination;
I am the one who will never give up,
and who will keep trying over and over, time and again;
I am surrounded by perfection;
I am who I always am, no matter what day it is, or what time-
no matter if it is a Saturday afternoon,
or a Thursday morning at 1 a.m.

The sun is strong,
the temperature is hot,
the air like it is on fire,
the skin of everyone is burning and red-
no one wants to be inside on a day like today,
but no one wants to be scorched by the sun’s rays for too long:
you may love the sun, you may not,
but the sun can be too much for some sometimes,
and it can make people tired;
nevertheless though there is no way,
when the weather is like it is today,
anyone could possibly choose to stay in bed.

The heat of the city feels like a wave of energy;
the people out and about are like an ocean;
the shops and businesses have all there doors and windows open;
the breeze of the wind makes people feel at ease;
the life of many things combine,
and what can be felt and sensed
is like intoxication from fine wine.

The open spaces are like a haven for sun-worshipers;
the amount of people on the streets
is truly inspiring for street artists;
the food and drink being consumed
makes the entire day feel like a party;
the enjoyment that is openly apparent
makes it seem like everyone is on holiday.

Summer in the city, in any city around the world,
is different to spending your time on an island beach,
or in a town in a popular hot country,
where the sea, and the tops of mountains,
when they are touched by the sun shine like pearls;
summer in the city is an inspiring time and place-
there is so much to attract your attention,
and so many things to put a smile on your face.
Summer in the city is full of infinite sights, sounds,
smells, and tastes;
summer in the city is filled with tantalizing invitations
that only a fool would let go to waste;
summer in the city is like a bubbling coffee pot;
summer in the city- the metal, the windows, the ground,
the people, are hot.

Why do we live?
Why do we die?
Do we live so that we can die?
Do we die so that someone can live?
Should we smile after we have cried?
Should we cry for those who will always be in our hearts,
and who we will always be with?

To forget is not in our nature;
to remember is in our blood;
to pay tribute is like creating a door;
to memorialize the fallen is to keep alive the memory
of those who once ran, walked, waited, stood;
to wear a symbol of respect and remembrance
is a hopeful token that costs nothing,
but is worth more than any money could buy;
to feel and to think about what someone must have been through
is a wonderful thing;
to glimpse even for a second that which
someone may rather try to hide
shows you in a glaring and glorious light;
to lay down a flower, a wreath, a thought,
even if you are doing so for those
who will always be a complete stranger,
is like a burst of colour in a field
on a beautiful day in spring.

Every fallen hero had a life-time of dreams;
every child fears the monsters of their nightmares;
every man and woman marching forward to a beat
knows what loyalty and duty means;
everyone who does what they can for someone in need
knows that life for all its magic and beauty
is not always fair.

Every person can make a difference;
every person we meet can be a guardian angel;
every person can be a guiding presence;
every person’s reputation precedes them,
and whether they know it or not
that sense of who they are
is always floating on the surface of a perceptual ocean,
until it rises fully and becomes visible.

There can be only one life for everybody;
there can be only one body for every life;
there can be lots of ways to remember someone,
and one of the best ways is to keep thinking about them,
to keep loving them, and whenever you look for someone
and need someone they are who you will see,
and they will be always a part of the dreams that you have at night.

When we take our final step on our life’s path,
and we step to the side, and stop and watch
the rest of the world, the rest of the universe, pass us by,
we can rest, we can be at peace, we can shine,
and be there for our loved ones,
like we have always been looked on and protected
by those who came before us who reside in the light of the stars,
that is when we realize that we never leave each other,
because we are always together-
no matter how close, or distant;
no matter how near, or far.

Majestic, beautiful, graceful-
the angels of the sea;
intelligent, empathetic,
perhaps even a little telepathic-
dolphins are the holders to many secrets
of what connects the things that fly in the sky,
those who walk on land,
and those who live, swim, thrive,
and dive with ease in the waters of the deep.

Dolphins say more with a click and a sound
than I could say in a life-time;
dolphins could probably tell me more about myself
than I could ever know;
dolphins feel more and are more aware than anything
or anyone of the energy that surrounds us all,
and the importance of learning and enjoying
all of the experiences that not only expand our hearts,
as well as our mind;
dolphins have the freedom to be happy and content,
and they are fee to go anywhere that they want to go.

A dolphin’s life is a fascinating one;
a dolphin’s world is filled with more beauty
than we could ever see, perceive, or imagine;
a dolphin’s song can raise your heart-rate,
and has more levels and layers to it than you could hear
even if you were to really listen;
a dolphin’s nature is to care deeply,
to think about the feelings and emotions of others beyond their pod,
and the gift to be able to see into the heart and soul of anyone,
and bring that out for others to see
with greater power than a reflection.

Dolphins are the guardians of the oceans;
dolphins are the protectors and the teachers of ancestry and lineage;
dolphins are capable of infinite states of emotion;
dolphins are eternal, and are not just of an age.

If you have ever been lucky and blessed to see a dolphin,
to swim with a dolphin, to kiss a dolphin,
to talk to a dolphin, to be touched by a dolphin’s limitless spirit,
you never forget that experience,
and such an encounter with a divine oracle changes you forever,
and their way of being really gets under your skin,
and that is why there is nothing more magical,
mysterious, amazing, miraculous, meaningful, special,
than coming face to face, heart to heart, eye to eye,
with a dolphin.

There is the poet,
who is always writing his poetry;
there is the man with the gold-rimmed glasses,
who is always looking and tapping away at his laptop;
there is the woman who has a particular temperature,
a particular colour, and a particular way,
that she likes and she expects her coffee;
there is the lady who comes through the door,
and every time she comes in and I see her
she is wearing the same coloured top.

There is the man who is always doing his crossword puzzle;
there is the business man who is always lost in thought;
there is the couple who sit opposite one-another,
but who never talk;
there is the woman who is always dressed in her running-gear,
and listening to her music on her iPod-
happy to just stay in her own private bubble.

There is the man who is always reading the same novel;
there is the woman in the red blouse,
who is video-calling someone far away- I always assume;
there is the boyfriend who is constantly looking at his girlfriend,
as if no one else is more beautiful;
there is the girl who has a tattoo on her neck
in the shape of the crescent of the moon.

There is the woman who I always see eating a salad;
there is the man who always sits by the window,
in the same seat, listening to the music being played,
as he stirs and sips the coffee in his cup;
there is the woman who sits on her own in the corner,
looking down at her phone, who always looks sad;
there is the man who is always dressed
like he is about to play a game of football in a World Cup.

There is the mother with her daughter;
there is the father with his son;
there is the blonde-haired man in the black jacket and blue jeans,
who drinks his drink in a rush as if it was water;
there are the friends who always look as if all they want to do
is chill-out, talk, laugh, and have fun.

There are people who I am used to seeing
when I come in to the same coffee shop, every time;
there are people of every age, colour,
inclination, and character;
there are people who stay here all day,
and some who just stay for a short time;
there are people who I would count myself a member of the same group,
and for all intents and purposes,
until I get to know everyone else better,
I will just call us all “The Regulars”.

Saying goodbye,
you have to do it in your own way:
with a smile, with a hug, with a letter, with a wave.

Saying goodbye is so much harder than saying hello;
saying goodbye to someone who you have known for a long time
is so much harder than saying goodbye to someone
who you don’t really know.

I have lost count of the number of people I have seen leave and walk away,
and every time taking a part of me with them-
I remember the face of everyone who I have made a connection with,
and there are random times of the day when certain faces resurface
and make me think about something about them again.

Sometimes goodbye can only be for ten minutes;
sometimes goodbye can be the last thing you say to someone
for an entire year;
sometimes goodbye can be said but never heard,
but you find that goodbye and that release in something of theirs
that you find one day-
maybe even the feeling or the vision of a memory of them
sitting in the place where they used to sit;
sometimes goodbye can be said and seen
with a single, beautiful, tear.

There are many reasons for us to say goodbye;
there are many ways to keep things alive
even after they have died;
there are many reasons that we can find to give up-
but, personally, no matter what it is,
I would still want to try;
there are many reasons why we all smile, and cry.

Say goodbye, always.
You never know, you may not get another chance
in the way you may want to or hope for.
Be strong. Be brave.
Don’t fight what you are feeling.
Tell someone that you wish you didn’t have to go,
and that you will be thinking about them,
and the time that you spent together could not have meant more.

Before you turn away from anybody,
give them a smile, give them a look,
give them something to remember you by,
and give them a wave.

The sky is glowing;
the fields are bright green;
the trees are swaying;
the morning sunshine
is making everything look more beautiful
than I have ever seen.
The birds are singing;
the ladybirds are foraging;
the flowers are blooming;
the spirit of nature is renewing.
The wind is blowing;
the people are smiling;
the children are laughing;
the dogs are barking;
the cats are resting;
even those who have a job to do
are thoroughly enjoying being awake and alive-
looking, talking, rushing, walking,
evolving, and soaring.

The colours are vibrant;
the music is slow;
the energy all around is more tangible and potent
than you could ever want;
the liquid refreshments continue to flow.
The bells at the turn of the hour ring out;
the statues of metal and stone
look as if they are about to come to life;
there is ice-cream being eaten hurriedly before it melts;
there is the potential of a hopeful and happy future
to be seen in every shared like and dislike.

The lovers are loving;
the readers are reading;
the listeners are listening;
the searchers are searching.
The air is warm to the touch;
the unseen and unnoticed heroes and angels
are doing what they always do,
and are gifting as many people as they can
with hope, joy, love, and fun.
Caring about the well-being of another has never meant as much;
everyone and everything is thankful
as they smile and say hello to the sun.
